Which is better for just a general ride... dressage whip or riding crop? Are there any pros or cons to using these whips?

By riding crop, I’m guessing you mean a jumping whip kinda thing?
I’d say for a normal schooling session on the flat, a dressage whip. It enables you to tap your horses quarters if he is behind your leg, with out taking your hands off the reins, therefor maintaining control and a contact on your horses mouth at all times.

Yeah, a couple have given me scars, and ended me up in hospital. But isn't that what it's all about? Taking risks, and taking chances to do something you love?
It doesn't matter if you're a happy hacker, want to be the next Pippa Funnel, or don't even ride, if you want to see the beauty of horses and love them no matter what, then who cares! :)
